If they are "secret" then they don't publicly exist, LOL. But those that do, have the rights of other citizens. What other protection did you mean?

If you form a new company or association, you can incorporate it without any elaborate mission statement as long as you are not seeking tax exemption. So unless they are openly violating the law, it is nobody's business what they do. Those who seek nonprofit status have to keep quarterly meeting me=inutes open to public but these organizations don't seek such status and are thus not required to report anything except perhaps be ready for tax audits by IRS in USA

Article 1 of the Bill of Rights states that anyone may peacefully meet, so as long as these secret societies aren't violent about it, it wouldn't be illegal for them to exist.

if there are secret societys and they keep their info secret there is no way to tell for sure if they mean good or long term potential harm. I just don't trust societies like skull and bones.

I think the peacefully thing is about what it is at present. For example, NAMBLA wants, long term, to molest little boys, but the constitution allows them to congregate because they (say they) aren't doing it until it's legal. And Skull and Bones is benign. It's a bunch of high-class people who have a chance to humiliate each other.

Yeah but I highly doubt nambla isn't molesting little boys. They just say, to avoid prosecution, that they aren't commiting crimes. You have to look at overall values of an arganization and if you are unable to know the organizations values than you have to be safer than sorry and assume they're bad.
